Monroe County

Monroe County is the southernmost county in Florida, encompassing the Florida Keys where approximately 99% of the county’s population lives. The vast majority of the county’s land mass consists of the Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve, both internationally recognized ecological preserves and tourism locations.  The Florida Keys is an archipelago of 1,700 islands that form an arc on the southernmost tip of the U.S. The northern section of the Florida Keys are part of the Biscayne National Park. The Florida Keys lie in turquoise waters along the Florida Straits, dividing the Atlantic Ocean to the east from the Gulf of Mexico to the west.

Not surprisingly, the mainstay of Monroe County’s economy is tourism and it is known for its unique and leisurely quality of life that seems worlds away.  To learn more about the business climate and economy of Monroe County please visit The Greater Marathon Chamber of Commerce.
